Text has description of the geologic structure and stratigraphy of the Lynchburg 15-minute quadrangle (portions of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell counties and City of Lynchburg). Tables of the results of point counts of thin sections and microphotographs of the thin sections are included. Mineral resource discussion of marble (includes tables of the chemical analysis of limestone and marble in the quadrangle), greenstone, sand, granitic and hornblende gneiss, manganese ore, barite, and iron ore. Seven manganese mines described in detail. Report contains a geologic map with five cross-sections. The mineral resource map has locations of mines, prospects, and quarries (102 with names). The workings are differentiated by resource - manganese, barite, hematite, limonite, quartzite, marble, gneiss, and greenstone with Mount Athos white marble and the Arch and the Candler blue-gray marble. Area is comprised of City Farm, Kelly, Lynchburg and Rustburg 7.5-minute quadrangles.
