Nora quadrangle is located in the southwestern part of Virginia in Dickenson and Russell counties. It lies entirely within the Appalachian Plateaus physiographic province. The bedrock in this quadrangle ranges in age from Lower to Middle Pennsylvanian. The rocks are primarily interbedded siltstones, sandstones, and shales. Generally the strata in the Nora quadrangle have a dip of approximately 0.6 degrees to the northwest. Coal is the primary mineral/energy resource in the map area. Fourteen coal beds have been mapped in the quadrangle. Other mineral/energy resources include natural gas, shale, and sandstone. Map includes cross-section.
