description: This dataset is composed of three feature classes which provide an inventory of recent-to-ancient slope movements in Albemarle and Nelson County, Virginia. These features classes include a point features class of slope movement initiation locations (Process Points), a polygon feature class of the areal extent of significant volumes of earth, debris, and rock fragments that have accumulated as a result of past landslides (Deposit Polygons), and a polygon feature class of the aerial extents of recent slope movements (Slope Movement Outlines). Landslide information for this dataset was entered into each feature class iteratively by Virginia Energy geologists by interpreting several sources. Staff mapped features using direct field observations; 1969, 1972, and 1977 aerial photography scanned and georeferenced for use in a GIS; 1994, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2018, and 2022 orthophotography; and a digital elevation model (DEM) derived from a 2.5-foot resolution LIDAR dataset collected in 2016. Virginia Energy geologists conducted fieldwork from October 2019 through July 2023 and collected data at 2,761 field locations. Features that were field verified are symbolized using a green outline.
