Detailed descriptions of metallic mineral deposits in Virginia compiled as part of a 4-year (1984-1988) cooperative project with the U.S. Geological Survey's Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS). A total of 337 mineral occurrence records from 48 counties are included. Information gathered on manganese, barite, and iron are not included in this report. A brief description of the geology, mineralogy, and mineral deposit genetic characteristics for the important historic mining areas is also given. The appendix is a series of page-sized county base maps showing the point locations described in the database records.
