Bulletin is split into two parts.
Part 1: Extensive and classic descriptive text on the stratigraphy of the Valley and Ridge Province in Virginia, starting with the Cambrian and ending with the Pennsylvanian with informative and good quality photographs of typical exposures of rock units and fossils. Includes specific sections on geologic structures, geologic history, and the Post-Paleozoic history of the province. The field work on which this report is based was carried out between 1926 and 1933. Bulletin 42 “Geologic Map of the Appalachian Valley in Virginia”, by Charles Butts was published in 1933 (map only available) and is a companion publication to Bulletin 52.
