This report presents the results of a study of the potential high-silica resources of Augusta, Bath, Highland, and Rockbridge counties in the central Valley and Ridge province of Virginia. In these four counties, the silica content of 249 sandstone and quartzite localities were examined and thirteen samples warranted further analysis. Physical descriptions, sieve analyses, and chemical test data for these thirteen samples are presented so that the commercial potential of high-silica resources can be evaluated. Grain-size distribution, average grain size, and degree of sorting for most samples are shown in the report by histograms and cumulative frequency curves.
