by J.D. Marr, Jr., geologic map with map text, scale 1:24,000, 1980. This map shows the bedrock geology and surficial deposits of the Andersonville 7.5-minute quadrangle and includes a discussion of the stratigraphy, structure, and economic geology of the area. The Andersonville quadrangle lies within the Piedmont physiographic province of central Virginia and includes portions of southern Buckingham, eastern Appomattox and northwestern Prince Edward counties. The bedrock mapped in the area includes Precambrian through lower Paleozoic igneous and metamorphic formations, as well as Triassic diabase dikes and recent terrace and alluvial deposits. Several abandoned gold mines and significant reserves of kyanite are located within the area. Abandoned gold mines and prospects for gold, iron, kyanite, and amethyst are plotted on the map. A cross-section is included.
