by E.O. Gooch, 8.5 x 11-inch soft cover book, 17 pages, 12 plates, 1 table, 1954. Report summarizes the distribution and depositional characteristics of iron occurrences in Virginia. The iron deposits are divided into four main types including limonite, hematite, magnetite, and carbonate, that occur in 12 principal iron districts situated in the Piedmont, Blue Ridge, and Valley and Ridge provinces. Production statistics are presented for the years 1810 through 1930, indicating total production of about 26 million long tons of iron ore, which has yielded about 11 million tons of pig iron valued at $200 million. Prospects and mine locations are plotted on page-sized iron district maps.
